School Newsletter

Autumn Term 2011

This half term seems to have gone so quickly and school has been as busy as ever.  The children in the Reception classes have settled in and it seems like they have always been with us.  The SIAS Inspection took place and you have received the report.  The photographer came in to take individual photographs (don’t forget to place your orders).  Art and Literacy fortnight included a visit from Denis Bond the author, a Celebration of Learning on Thursday afternoon and parents and carers visiting classrooms on Friday to see what had been learnt.  About 70 parents attended the coffee morning and we celebrated Harvest with a service at Penge Baptist Church.

With this newsletter is a copy of the slides from my presentation at the coffee morning, showing what the school does well, what we need to improve and what we are focusing on this year to make that happen.  There were a lot of questions and discussion and the main point seemed to be that parents wanted to meet with the Governors.  Governors will be discussing how to arrange this at their meeting next half term.

One of our focuses this year is to raise the profile of reading and improve reading throughout the school.  We would welcome parents and carers coming into school to help by reading or playing games with children.  If you would like to do this please talk to your child’s class teacher to arrange times.  As parents and carers are not ‘CRB checked’ you will stay in the classroom with the teacher at all times so as not to be alone with any children.

The School Council meets regularly and this term brought a suggestion to me about the school policy on earrings.  I have considered their ideas and have changed the policy.  In future children will be able to wear plain metal stud earrings to school.  Earrings with stones or hooped earrings will not be allowed and children found wearing them will be asked to remove them or their parents will be called to remove them.

Class led collective worship will continue to be on Fridays and a list of when classes will be leading our worship is in the box.  You are very welcome to join us at 9.15 in the hall (enter through the fire doors) when your child is involved.

At the end of this half term Mrs Fitzgerald begins her maternity leave.  She will be greatly missed by us all and especially the children she has been supporting this term and I would like to thank her for all she has done for the children and wish her well for the future.

If there is anything I can help you with please speak to me in the playground, phone me at school or make an appointment to see me.

Mrs Sue King

Headteacher
